Halloween Part 2

This is Halloween part 3.  Part 2 was the church trunk or treat, but I don't have pictures.  I did the same thing as the command trunk or treat.  All the stars had science questions on them.  (The stars hanging had famous scientists on them.)  I asked them to the kids.  It. Was.  Awesome.  There the kids are, running around like crazy trying to get as much candy as possible and suddenly I say "Hey kids!  You want some Halloween candy?"  "Yes!" they exclaim.  "Good, answer a science question and you can have the candy!"  Then crickets.  They just stare at you not knowing what to say.  Some kids were really into it.  Especially age 8 and up.  The really small ones just wanted to play with the star.  But the slightly older kids kept asking the questions to each other.  Once they figured out I was serious, they took it seriously and tried to answer the question.  There was a fourteen year old at church whose parents are raising him right.  He said "you have the best trunk or treat because everyone is just giving the candy away, but you are making them work for it.  People shouldn't get something for free."  I thought that was funny.  That kid is going places.  These pictures are from our command Halloween party.  It went really well considering we had a budget of $200.00. We did run out of food, but it was still a cool thing.

I should mention the stars all had Nerds candy taped to them.  So I gave them all science Nerds.  Haha, it's funny, get it?  The answer was on the back.

Halloween Part I

This was the first Halloween party.  It was at someone from work's house.  There were three Star Trek people.  We coordinated, but not too well because we only had two colors.  There were supposed to be six of us, but two were out of town and one didn't want to come.  If he had, we would have had all three colors.  It was a good party.  I spent a lot of it with the other Star Trek people, but then talked to other people, as well.  There were lots of creepy clowns.  I ended up being the designated driver for a couple people.  Which was fine.  I left around eleven pm and that was plenty of partying for me.  I can't believe people stayed longer.  I don't know who the guy in the white wig is, but we took a selfie together.  We all wore flip flops with our Star Trek uniforms because we were on shore leave.

Barbells and Brews

I don't know which three videos I uploaded, but this is a monthly Crossfit thing we do.  Some people volunteer to do a workout.  Before they start each slice of the competition, they have to drink a beer.  Obviously I haven't done this, but I went last month to watch.  I was surprised at how difficult each workout was.  There is no way I could compete, even if I did drink beer.  The concrete ball was sixty-five pounds, so if any of the videos show that, just know how heavy it is.  It was fun, but I am tired by the end of the week, so I left when the competition was over instead of staying for the potluck.  The entire competition lasted about 30 minutes.  That's 30 minutes of constant work by some of our fittest members.  It was impressive.

Car Wash

We are trying to raise money for a family fun day in December.  Santa Claus will be there.  A common thing people do is wash cars in the commissary parking lot for money.  I went and it was fun.  A little too long, we should have stopped at 1 not 3, but that's okay.  The morning was nice, it just gets sooo hot.  We also sold hot dogs and hamburgers.  We made quite a bit of money.  I put on lots of 50+ sunscreen, wore a hat and then tried to mostly stand in the shade.  One of the guys saw me and was like "you're like me, JAG, two shades darker and you could pass as a white person."  Meaning that my skin tone is very white.  Both of us burn easily.  And yes, I know I am very pale.  One of the doctors here asked me if I was anemic and then asked if he could test me for anemia.  The test came back negative.  I'm not anemic... just really white.

Baby Chickens Everywhere!

These pictures contain a common sight in my yard... baby chickens!  This momma had seven baby chickens this day.  They are wild chickens and I always have several in my yard.  Today when I came home from church, there were at least five chickens in my yard.  But the babies are cute because they are always going "peep, peep, peep, peep, peep, peep..." and so on. It's non-stop.  And they all run around the momma chicken.  If she goes somewhere they all run around her.  They are constantly under foot.  It's cute.  I don't mind the chickens at all.  Except that one time one tried to live in the mango tree and he woke up every morning at three am.  That was loud.  The adult chickens can be very, very loud.  Luckily chickens weren't meant to live in mango trees and a few nights later he had moved on.  I do go out and chase them away from eating my mangos when I have mangos in the yard.

Movie Nights

I mentioned in an earlier post that I've never been as social anywhere as I have been here.  This is the movie group.  Ever so often we will go out and see movies.  Technically the entire command is invited, but it's the same people who show up time and again.  Unfortunately the restaurant was busy and I couldn't get a good shot of everybody, but the guy in the light grey shirt with his hand over his face is leaving soon.  So we told the staff it was his birthday and had them sing to him and bring him a present that another one of our members made for him.  It was a wooden Star Trek sign.  (He is a giant Star Trek fan, along with the guy sitting on the end.  They work in the same office and often talk about Star Trek and other somewhat nerdy things.  I caught them walking down the hall one time discussing whether Legos were breakable.  It was a serious conversation for them.)  The sign was very cool and I wish you could see it in this picture.  This night I saw Magnificent 7, which was decent and pretty funny, except there were saloon girls more modestly dressed than Jennifer Lawrence.  Honestly, that kind of stuff irritates me.  I just want to get involved in the story, but instead I'm worried that she is going to fall out of her dress!  Why, people?  That doesn't even match the conservative dress of the time period.  *Sigh*  Our next movie is Dr. Strange the first week of November.  I'm super excited.  This is the first one that I've picked.  I've been kind of eh towards most of the movies we watch, but I go because I like the people.

The beautiful sunsets

This was the sunset on the way home from the golf tournament.  I wish I had a better view, this was taken over some abandoned houses.  I should add I won a prize for being the worst golfer.  It is a pretty cool glass, actually.  I will have to take a pic of it at some future date.  It was filled M&Ms.  Everyone from my work got one because we were the worst team.  I proudly displayed it on my desk and the co-worker (my deputy boss) who told everyone about my bee stings, said if I didn't eat the M&Ms he would.  So the next day, M&Ms still intact, I hear him and the boss (both rank of Captain) walking down the hall talking about how I still had M&Ms in my glass and they were setting out to steal them!  I wasn't in my office, so I quickly ran out of the other person's office, chased them down the hall and yelled "Are you really going to eat my M&Ms?!"  They just laughed and said yes.  They got to my office before me and both took handfuls.  Scornfully, I told them I was donating the rest to charity out of spite.  When they left, I took the cup over to the Admin department where there was a Chief who was asking people for candy earlier and I gave the cup to him.  I told him he could have the M&Ms but I wanted the cup back.  He said thanks.  Deputy boss was a little disappointed he couldn't have anymore, but he got over it.

The unexpected golf outing

So I'm sitting at work one day doing my thing and one of my co-workers comes by and says, JAG, you have to come play golf with us.  We don't have enough people.  I reminded him how bad I was and he said it didn't matter right now they needed numbers.  The reason they needed numbers is because it was a tournament and you have to have people to be on your team.  So I went.  It was super fun.  When you play tournament style, you play off the best shot.  Meaning even though I was bad, I still got to golf, but didn't have to live with the consequences.  This was my first time playing all 18 holes.  Around hole 15 it started feeling long.  I did get better as time went along.

The funniest part of golfing was I had a Forrest Gump moment.  My ball went wayward and hit a fence.  I went to go get it and when I bent over to pick up my ball, I was stung by two angry boonie bees!  Right in the butt.  It was painful and embarrassing.  Especially since one of my teammates went to work the next day and told the entire staff because he thought it was funny.  Oh well, it's a good memory.  I look forward to more tournaments.

From the pics you can tell that Guam is beautiful.  If it weren't so hot all the time, it really would be paradise.

One more

So this was supposed to be added to the Chuck-E-Cheese pics, but somehow it was left off.  That's okay, though, it can stand on it's own.  Across from Chuck-E-Cheese is a Cold Stone.  So the people I was hanging out with thought it would be a good idea to top the night off with ice cream.  It was.  This is the German Chocolate one that has a fancy semi-German name, but it was outstanding.  It had brownie, coconut, pecan, and caramel.  I will have to go back at some point.
